Market Research Intern

Job Purpose:

Are you a student interested in entrepreneurship? This opportunity will give you valuable experience working with different facets of the business; you will learn start-up strategies that will help you be ready to rise to any challenge and solve problems in an innovative and stimulating environment. The Market Research Intern reports directly to the Presales Manager. The Market Research Intern will conduct extensive market research on assigned topics and prepare reports on findings. The Market Research Intern will have the opportunity to contribute to marketing campaigns to promote our products and services, create brand awareness, and understand our key market segments.

Essential Job Functions:

Market Research

  • Addressable market (primarily K-12 public and private schools, colleges, and universities)
    • its size, operations, specific needs, points of entry, and so on o Frequency/type of incidents potential clients face
  • Our competitors (and their respective strengths and weaknesses, as well as things like the size of their market share and business models)
  • Compliance requirements applicable to our market o Financial status and funding sources of our potential clients o Grant possibilities (school safety programs– local and Federal programs) o Key industry experts in school safety/emergency management preparedness o Relevant seminars/conferences
  • Liability, privacy, and insurance issues that might be relevant to our company and/or our clients
  • Partners with team members to investigate overall impressions of our brand, product, and communications
Blogs/Podcasts
  • Create ideas and design infographics. Develops blog topics, may recruit and manage guest bloggers as well as creating original content. Obtains prior approval on blogs before publishing. Researches relevant images that can be used in relation to blogs.
  • Creating and writing, possibly recording podcasts. Developing themes, content and recruiting people to be part of the podcasts. Editing podcasts after being recorded and uploading to web as well as publicizing podcast.

Marketing

  • Create marketing material to include, writing, digital formats, graphics, for high level, customer focused documents.
  • Gather and write testimonials, with the ability to produce in a brochure, web, and in all branding capacities.
  • Assist with all necessary tasks for building brand, which includes event planning, conferences, internal meetings, as needed.
  • Update event planning sheet monthly.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, standards and safety rules
  • Performs other tasks or projects as assigned by manager
  • May be required to fulfill travel obligations

Additional Opportunities

  • Will have the opportunity to participate in and learn about the production side of the business, including product development, strategies, client relations and consulting
  • Will have the opportunity to participate in and learn about additional organizational communications initiatives such as social media campaigns and digital marketing

Experience/Education:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in marketing, business or related field
  • Experience conducting research
  • Interested in learning about market intelligence and social media analytics tools

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

General: Positive attitude, attention to detail and customer oriented; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines; excellent organization and time-management skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to maintain the confidentiality of data.

Personal: Excellent consulting, writing, editing(photo/video/audio/text), proofreading, and presentation skills; thorough understanding of principal marketing channels and the basics of online marketing; ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language

Communication: Strong interpersonal skills & the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community; ability to write in a clear, concise manner, and handles criticism and editing well.

Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Computer: Ability to proficiently use computer software programs and related computer applications, Outlook, Excel and other Microsoft Office applications and other industry-specific technology tools used within the organization. Ability to understand business applications of social media platforms, including (but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn etc.; ability to quickly learn new technology and anticipate new trends.

Physical and Environmental Elements:

Physical demands: Ability to sit continuously for over 2/3 of normal work shift. Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on a regular basis. Ability to talk and to hear continuously. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally. Finger dexterity is required frequently for over 2/3 of the normal work shift.

Vision: Ability to see at close range (20 inches or less), at a distance (clear vision at 20 feet or more), ability to identify and distinguish colors, ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships, and ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

Work Environment: Employees work in an office environment. Noise levels are moderate (such as computers and printers) and temperature conditions are usually controlled.
