Media and Communications Intern

Reports to: Marketing Director, Artistic Director & Executive Producer, Executive Director & Co-Producer, and Senior Staff

Works with: Dancing Camera Director Nic Petry, Marketing Director, Festival Artists, Local Media Personnel, Community Businesses, Senior Staff, Fellow Interns

Focused Responsibilities: 

Videoing and archiving of all Yard and community performances and programming, creation of 2-3 Yard season video projects and weekly promo videos, updating social media, and handling of media relations

Core Skills Required: Film making & video archiving, detail oriented, strong organization and time management skills, efficient multi-tasking

*Dance and/or Visual Artists interested in the genres of video & photography are strongly encouraged to apply; secondary visual arts interests in painting, drawing, and graphic design are considered as well.

**Media and Communications Intern candidate must include two work samples with their application including 2 of one selection or 1 of each: 1.  A video project and/or archival video footage of their own creation AND/OR 2.  A graphic design or visual art sample.

The Media and Communications Intern is a unique and essential position in a thriving arts organization. The ideal candidate is a highly self-motivated and detail-oriented creative with a strong aesthetic eye and interest in visual design and video. This intern works directly with all of the artists, staff, and has one-to-one mentoring from multiple professionals in graphics and video design. Responsible for all of the organization's archival and promotional video needs, the ideal candidate is self-directed, and has the ability to work effectively in a group and with multiple supervisors. Key skills include a moderate to high degree of technological comfort, a calm problem-solving nature, and the ability to plan and organize to meet deadlines. A successful applicant has experience in videography, video editing, sound integration, and basic graphic design or computer publishing. This applicant must be open to learning new software and be willing to take innovative approaches to capture, produce and market work for a small performing arts non-profit. Knowledge of Adobe Premiere (or equivalent NLE), and Microsoft (Word, Publisher, Excel), and Photoshop are strongly encouraged. Comfort with photography and video is expected, although training is provided. Experience with Facebook, Twitter, and Vimeo are a plus.  Weekly responsibilities include production and event filming, editing and promotional video creation, footage management and archival.

The successful candidate will train directly with Dancing Camera's Executive and Creative Director, Nic Petry, throughout the season both in-person and remotely. Intensive training sessions and mentoring will provide the opportunity to learn new skills, advance knowledge, and build a foundation for a career in video. At the end of the internship, the candidate will have made substantial advancements in understanding live production filming strategies and techniques, and gained command in web video design.

The Media and Communications Intern is also responsible for aiding senior staff with daily operations and any general tasks required, not specific to Media and Communications.
