Technical Productions Intern

Reports to: Production Manager & Resident Lighting Designer, Asst. Production Manager & Sound Designer, and Senior Staff

Works with: Production Management, Resident & visiting Designers, Festival Artists, KidsDODance! Participants & Director, Senior Staff, and Fellow Interns

Focused Responsibilities: Assisting with the planning, execution and design of all shows and performances; aiding community programs; upkeep of the production facilities and campus as a whole.

Core Skills Required: Strong organization and time management; Interest/experience in any of the following: Stage/Production Management, Lighting Design, or Sound Design; Adaptability and enthusiasm for learning new skills.

The Technical Production Intern works closely with the Production Manager & Lighting Designer, and the Assistant Production Manager & Sound Designer on every event of the summer season. During the first three weeks of the summer, the Technical Production Intern and the Production Senior Staff open up the theatres and campus for the summer season, including cleaning the theatre and studios, hanging the season lighting and sound plot, inventorying materials and supplies and general campus prep.

For the remainder of the internship the Technical Production Intern is responsible for the week-to-week upkeep and running of the Yard mainstage (the Patricia N. Nanon Blackbox - 100 seats) the Yard studio, and for select events the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center (Proscenium - 700 seats). Weekly responsibilities include: preparing rehearsal calendars and schedules, lighting hang and focus, sound hang and focus, programming and running shows, and assisting with the load-in and load-out of all artists and productions.

Applicants must demonstrate a genuine interest in at least one area of theatrical design or management. They must be able to lift up to 50lbs, work at heights up to 25 feet, and feel comfortable and confident taking responsibility for projects both independently and collaboratively. Previous experience with Lighting, Sound, Projection or Costume design is a plus but not a requirement.
