The Tokyo Journal, read and revered for over 40 years is one of the oldest English magazines sold in domestic and international bookstores. It is a quintessential user's manual providing a unique and insightful perspective of Japan. Produced by and for a knowledgeable and worldly international community, the quarterly Tokyo Journal speaks to an educated and literate audience curious about the country and the way it works. It does not require Tokyo residence, but is teeming with resources and recommendations for those who live in or frequent the city. It introduces the real Japan and international issues to an audience that wants to know more about Tokyo, Japan, Asia, trends, society, travel, food, movies, music, entertainment, fashion, design, business, technology, art, culture, manga, anime, sports, leisure, sustainability, green living, language and education. With selected articles provided with Japanese translations, the Tokyo Journal is a respected passenger on major airlines, boasts a worldwide distribution network, and proudly reaches a large subscriber base in Japan and abroad. The intern will work remotely

Responsibilities:

- copy editing (native level English skill is required)

- translation/interpretation (if you are Japanese-English bilingual)

- contacting distribution channels

- social media announcements

- following news regarding Japan-related events and recommending stories, arranging press passes, etc.

- requesting interviews with celebrities / subject experts

- attending events for interviewing, information gathering, photographs, etc.

- contacting organizations that can supply content

- contacting organizations regarding advertising/advertorials

- researching rankings information

- promoting rankings information

- updating website

Interns learn various skills while completing an internship with Tokyo Journal. These skills vary depending on the department in which they have been assigned and in the areas where the magazine's Editor and Publishing Coordinator feel they have the most potential of gaining employment upon the completion of their studies. These skills include copy editing, taking dictation, transcribing interviews, recording interviews, writing articles, copy writing, taking photographs, operating film and recording equipment, interviewing, supporting journalists and photographers in carrying out interviews, public speaking, marketing, sales, promotions, event planning, strategic planning and and the many other skills that are used and qualities that are developed by a journalistic team working for an international magazine.

Requirements:

・Responsibility varies depending on your skills and interest

・Native English skill is required for copy editing interns.

・Interest in Asian culture is preferable.

・Japanese, Korean or Chinese language skills are plus.
