Cost Estimator

Hunter Pacific Group - Cost Estimator, 1 Yr – 5 Yr Experience

Responsibilities:
At Hunter Pacific, Cost Estimators work closely with all levels of Team Members within the organization to perform cost management and estimating services for Architects, Engineers, Federal, DOD and Public Agencies, with projects ranging in size from $1 million to $3 billion.
Individual must be self-motivated, possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and be confident in their ability to develop and manage their assigned portion of the estimate. Individual must live in San Diego but may work remotely.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop client relationships, attend meetings, and provide professional opinion involving construction cost.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed construction / project cost estimates from schematic, design development through final construction document level design.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed construction value engineering and change order estimates.
  • Review, estimate, and reconcile change orders, often with Contractor’s or a peer review Estimator.
  • Prepare detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates for systems and subsystems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and civil estimating is a plus.
  • Research prices on material and labor using published documents, local sub trade conditions, and market studies and develop and nurture subcontractor/vendor relationships.
  • Maintain estimating and cost history databases.
  • Review and understand all project plans, documents, and specifications.
  • Perform and review accurate quantity takeoffs and material pricing.
  • Understand project logistics and project schedule.
  • Assist in development of junior estimators / quantity surveyors.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management/Engineering, Architecture, Engineering, or Quantitative Surveying is highly preferred. A combination of education and work experience will also be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Those in this role typically have 1-5 years of estimating, cost management, and/or job site experience.
  • Dealing with Ambiguity – can effectively cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty.
  • Self‐Starter – able to start and complete projects independently.
  • Time Management – use time effectively and efficiently, can attend to a broader range of activities, gets more done in less time than others.
  • Written/Oral communications – ability to speak and write clearly and concisely, get messages across that have the desired effect.
  • Hard worker & Team Player ‐ No task too small. Getting the job done and exceeding client expectations is the key to integrating successfully into our team.
  • Advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of OnScreen Takeoff, MCACES MII, and/or other Estimating Software is a plus.
