Senior Scientist (Bioanalytical), R&D

Bio-Rad has an open position for a Senior Scientist in our chromatography media chemistry group. The Senior Scientist role will support our efforts in the design, evaluation, manufacture transfer, and applications of new chromatographic resins and membranes for the separation of biomolecules.


Responsibilities


  • Lead purification development activities for protein / mAbs / Viruses / DNA applications of pharmaceutical interest.
  • Design and execute lab-scale chromatography and ultrafiltration/diafiltration studies to inform and support process media development.
  • Provide purification support for cell line/cell culture development activities and material generation to enable formulation and analytical development supporting customer workflows.
  • Develop methods for in-process testing using ELISA, PCR, HPLC, UV and SDS-Page based analytics.
  • Lead technology development assessment projects related to novel chromatography resins, membrane technologies and high throughput process development.
  • Work closely with customer’s discovery groups and project teams to transfer process/molecule knowledge into development.
  • Interface with Marketing/Sales colleagues on chromatography media promotion and technical support.
  • Deliver technical presentations at conferences and customer sites occasionally.


Qualifications


  • PhD in biochemistry, biotechnology, protein chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, chemical Engineering or related scientific discipline plus a minimum of 3-5 years of purification development experience preferably in the biotech/biopharma industry or university core facility for the expression and production of biological molecules; or MS with 12+ years of experience.
  • Experience developing purification processes and designing / executing downstream purification processes to support early and late stage clinical production.
  • Experience leading process characterization/validation activities for late stage development is desired.
  • Proven track record of representing bioprocess functions in cross-functional teams and working effectively with CDMOs.
  • Experience with process virology, including working with contract labs to plan and execute viral clearance studies.
  • Broad experience in protein characterization, design of experiments and analytics.
  • In-depth hands on knowledge and extensive experience with AKTA / NGC protein purification systems, centrifugation, filtration and antibody characterization methods including: HPLC, LC/MS, SDS‐PAGE, DLS and other biophysical techniques.
  • Excellent critical thinking, scientific problem-solving and communication skills.
