Application Scientist- Genomics Software

Agilent's Diagnostics and Genomics Group is seeking an enthusiastic, customer first Genomic Software Pre-/Post-Sales Field Applications Scientist (FAS). In this role you will provide technical consultation, technical training, and education to enable customers to perform data analysis in clinical laboratory environments. Your expertise can influence change in the genomics market through direct customer interactions! You will partner with the sales organization and serve as the scientific/technical specialist to help drive sales and provide support for new and existing customers in diverse clinical settings.
As the primary technical liaison between our customers and our field sales team, the pre- and post-sales responsibilities for this FAS role include:
  • Providing scientific/technical consultation to customers in partnership with the sales team to ensure laboratories are shown how Agilent's Genomics Alissa NGS analysis and interpretation software can impact their specific use case.
  • Delivering scientific/technical presentations for internal and/or external customer facing events.
  • Proactively identifying potential customer issues with Agilent products and coordinates internal resources to identify solutions.
  • Participates and actively provides voice of customer feedback on product direction and market/customer requirements.
  • Aides in the development of project proposals in conjunction with sales and internal technical teams for sales competitions.
  • Leading hands-on software trainings in customer laboratories.
  • Monitoring technical trends and competing products in focused genomics markets.
  • Providing remote and/or on-site troubleshooting assistance to customers in partnership with internal technical support and R&D teams.
Additional Responsibilities and Opportunities may include:
  • Act as a key contributor in the promotion of genomics marketing activities at Agilent-sponsored marketing/sales events and/or regional/national scientific conferences.
  • Providing internal product training to peers and new hires.
  • Collaborate with R&D and Marketing teams to identify, help develop, and serve as an evaluator of new products and product updates prior to and after their launch.

Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in Genetics, Genomics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or equivalent biological field
  • 4+ years related clinical laboratory experience in a Molecular Biology field; ideally including 3 years of direct experience working in translational research and/or CAP/CLIA genomic diagnostic laboratories
  • Strong technical knowledge of NGS applications including NGS data analytics
  • Familiarity with wide range of molecular genetics assays and associated data analysis methods such as Linkage analysis, karyotyping, array-CGH, Sanger and next-generation sequencing (NGS) within various clinical domains (rare diseases, pathology, reproductive genetics, …) strongly preferred
  • Experience with genomic analysis, curation, and other similar software a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Work well independently and as part of an integrated/cross-functional team
  • Exercise strong time management skills and have the ability to effectively multi-task
  • Entrepreneurial, independent, and creative are meaningful personality traits
  • Industrial experience specifically providing pre-/post-sales technical support for a field sales organization is a plus
  • Requires flexibility in working hours and availability to travel for business ~30-50%
  • Requires residency in the US West Coast, within 50 miles of an airport
