Research Associate II - Protein Biochemistry

Position Summary
Under the supervision of Dr. Anna Wu, the Research Associate II will perform a variety of research experiments that involve protein expression and characterization, tumor cell lines/ tissue culture, mouse tumor models conduct imaging studies. The RAII should be interested in reading scientific articles, contributing original ideas to the laboratory research; compiling reports of laboratory experiments and results; standardizing new techniques and training other staff on these techniques. 

Protein biochemistry skills that are used in the lab include protein expression, purification (chromatography), characterization (ELISAs, flow cytometry, SDS-PAGE), conjugation, and radiolabeling. Mammalian cell culture is employed for protein production, functional assays, and tumor induction. Preclinical studies will involve tumor implantation and monitoring, in vivo imaging, tissue harvest and immunological profiling, and therapy studies including targeted radionuclide therapy.

Research in the Wu lab spans basic and translational science in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and dynamic environment that values initiative, communication, professionalism, and teamwork. Dr. Wu is eager to mentor scientists of all backgrounds who want to go on to develop a productive career in academic medicine or science and will provide opportunities to help the RA II achieve their career goals.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Utilize established protocols to perform a variety of research experiments, both in vitro (in cancer cell lines) and in vivo (in murine models). Record and validate results for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of methodology and results. Analyze, compile, and graph data to present at lab meetings.
  • Ensure that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with safety procedures and guidelines.

Qualifications
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or other related field with 2 years of experience or Master’s degree in life sciences or other related field with 1 year of experience is required. 
  • Experience with protein biochemistry, radiolabeling, cell culture and murine models is preferred.
  • A desire to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary lab environment that values communication, initiative, professionalism, and teamwork.

  • Dr. Wu’s research is currently supported by an NIH R01 grant from the National Cancer Institute and internal funds from City of Hope.
  • Research findings from Dr. Wu and colleagues have been published in Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, Molecular Cancer Therapy, Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, and numerous other journals.
