Noise Specialist (mid-level)
PlaceWorks is seeking a full-time, mid-level Noise Specialist to become part of the Environmental Team in our Orange County (Santa Ana) office. We are looking for an individual with 3+ years of technical experience in engineering acoustics and environmental noise and vibration control/studies as specifically related to CEQA. The ideal candidate is self-starting, outgoing, and passionate about helping shape and improve communities and the environment through their work. The Noise Specialist assists project teams and other technical specialists by conducting noise and vibration impact assessments, modeling, and other technical studies to prepare environmental impact assessments for CEPA/NEPA documentation for a wide array of projects at a variety of scales. Our environmental practice encompasses a variety of private and public sector project work including environmental review of general and specific plans, school facilities (e.g., stadiums), parks, mixed-use development, housing projects, commercial centers (e.g., car washes, drive- thrus), industrial and warehousing centers, and infrastructure projects.

- You have experience designing and performing site visits and field work at project locations to measure and characterize existing noise and vibration conditions in project areas.
- You have experience conducting noise/acoustic modeling for transportation- and construction-related noise and vibration impacts using sound propagation modeling such as: RCNM, TNM, SoundPLAN, CadnaA.
- You can develop appropriate mitigation measures to reduce noise impacts of a project when necessary.
- You have experience with the CEQA process, CEQA and NEPA compliance, and technical writing and analysis of environmental documents and impact analysis for initial studies and EIRs. Experience in other technical (non-noise) areas such as air quality, greenhouse gases, or Phase I environmental site assessments, is a plus.
- You have outstanding technical writing, research, and analytical skills with a high attention to detail, and enjoy compiling research and data as required by a project.
- Multi-tasking is second nature and you can produce final products by stated deadlines.
- You’re able to travel to and perform outdoor site visits and field work as a project requires (sometimes on weekday evenings and weekends) and in a variety of locations, including urbanized areas, industrial areas, rural areas, busy streets, and near schools. You are comfortable with operating and being on a ladder.

- You’re interested in assisting with marketing, business development, and proposal efforts for environmental work.
- You’re able to train and mentor junior staff in the technical aspects of environmental noise and vibration impact assessment.
- You’re a self-starter who is also a team player, and who can work both independently and in a highly collaborative environment.
- You have strong mathematical skills, and advanced skills with high- level functions in Excel.
- You have strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills and aren’t afraid to ask questions.
- You’re experienced and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- You possess a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in engineering, physics, acoustics, environmental studies, or a related field.
- You have a current and valid California driver’s license and acceptable MVR to drive on Company business for performing site visits and attending meetings.
The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $110,000 per year, dependent upon experience and other relevant factors.
