Sr. Systems Administrator

This position is based in Monrovia, CA. and will move to Pasadena, CA in March 2023

We have an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Systems Administrator to join our team.
 
Summary:
Responsible for managing IT critical infrastructure, lab environment, security, and support functions for the company.

Job Duties Include:
  • Evaluates and anticipates technology for assigned internal client groups
  • Manages IT support to assigned end users
  • Manages training and support for software and hardware requests and problems
  • Oversees the provisioning and deprovisioning of end-user accounts, access, software and hardware
  • Secures, maintains and supports both business and laboratory environments
  • Creates, updates, and reviews departmental procedures, support tickets, and knowledge bases
  • Manages backups and redundancy of all critical IT and laboratory systems
  • Manages ongoing security initiatives including training, education, system hardening, vulnerability scanning and remediation
  • Manages third-party vendor relations and assists with vendor risk management
  • Manages the planning and implementation of IT projects
  • Adheres to all department and company-wide policies regarding conduct, performance and procedures
  • Provides oversight and direction to direct and indirect reports, as applicable, in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures. The responsibilities may include, but are not limited to recruiting, training, communicating job expectations, appraising and managing job performance, delivering feedback and coaching, and providing career development planning and opportunities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Job Qualifications:
Position requires a High School diploma and at least 8 years of related experience; Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field and at least 5 years related experience preferred. Previous experience performing IT duties in a Windows-based environment and creating and implementing IT security policies also required. Experience working in publicly held company within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or life sciences industry preferred. Previous managerial experience and experience applying Governance, Risk, Compliance, and/or Cybersecurity concepts also preferred.
 
 
Position also requires:

  • Exceptional functional knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Office 365, and experience with other critical business application
  • Exceptional functional knowledge and experience with system administration in a Microsoft environment covering hardware, software, updates, mail, storage and backups
  • Exceptional functional knowledge and experience with network administration covering IP networking, firewalls, routers, switches, network and security appliances
  • Ability to work on-call and after hours to address urgent IT matters
  • Exceptional functional knowledge and experience with endpoint administration covering desktops, laptops, phones, printers/scanners, and conferencing equipment
  • Exceptional teamwork and collaboration skills working with the IT team, internal business units, partners, third-party vendors and regulators
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional understanding of the correlation between business and IT
  • Exceptional customer service and documentation skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate competencies applicable for job based on Xencor’s Leadership Competency Model
  • Ability to effectively manage others through coaching and supervision, in accordance with company policies and practices. Ensures employee performance meets the organization’s expectations for conduct, productivity, quality, continuous improvement, and goal accomplishment.

Additional Requirements for Laboratory and Research Related Jobs
This role may involve exposure to experimental subjects and/or specimens including infected samples, plus various Hazardous Materials and infectious agents (Bloodborne Pathogens, or other potentially infections materials (OPIMs). Therefore, the following are also required:
  • Ability to follow the established Environmental Health & Safety rules, procedures, and/or BioSafety Guidelines
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
  • Knowledge of biosafety techniques and aseptic/gowning practices
  • Experience with laboratory safety standards and procedures, including biohazard handling and disposal techniques, and the ability to ensure laboratory compliance with required safety regulations
Occasional travel may be required, including travel between Xencor’s Monrovia and San Diego offices. Work for this position is generally performed at Xencor’s worksite and requires full-time commitment.
 
Expected Base Salary Range: $115,000.00 - $133,000.00
The actual salary will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications, including skills, competencies, education and experience. Xencor offers a competitive total rewards package including 401k match, healthcare coverage, ESPP and a broad range of other benefits. In addition, this position will be eligible for an annual bonus and equity grant. As a condition of employment, Xencor requires all employees to have received a CDC authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen and at least one booster dose.  New employees will be required to provide proof that at least two weeks have passed since their booster dose as of their start date unless an exemption or accommodation has been requested and approved.
