Enterprise Privacy & Cybersecurity / Information Technology Intern - OCIT

Orange County Information Technology (OCIT)
The OCIT model is to efficiently deliver IT services and establish IT best practices that drive innovation, agility, and market alignment. OCIT assists the Board of Supervisors, County Departments and County employees in utilizing information technology to improve service to the public and operate in a more efficient manner.

OCIT collaborates with County departments, vendors and business partners to ensure the needs of County constituents are met through the implementation of secure, sustainable and strategic Information Technology initiatives.

The Enterprise Privacy & Cybersecurity Program facilitates the implementation and maintenance of administrative, physical and technical controls to ensure safeguards are in placed to secure County networks, systems and data from deliberate or accidental harm. The program towers focus on privacy, education, provide safe and secure mobility, enhanced defense in depth, e-Discovery, vulnerability and risk management.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Under the direction and oversight of the Enterprise Privacy & Cybersecurity team, interns will assist in the following projects and assignments:
 
  • Support security objectives and project strategies in the different towers of the team: Privacy and Training, e-Discovery/PRA, Security Operations, Risk and Vulnerability Management, and Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
  • Planning, coordination and management of various IT Security project/program assignments
  • Create, develop and/or update applicable processes and procedures, plans, and best practices guidelines
  • Compile feedback and responses from County departments
  • Conduct research analyze data and/or reports and provide recommendations
  • Apply knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations to comply with security and privacy compliance
  • Perform other duties as assigned such as scheduling meetings, taking minutes, etc

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must currently be enrolled in a bachelor's degree or higher program at an accredited college/university and must be majoring in Computer Science or IT with a focus in cybersecurity, privacy, incident response management, training, risk and vulnerability management, or technical security. Recent graduates who have obtained their bachelor's degree or higher in one of the above fields of study are eligible to apply.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal candidates should have basic knowledge of cybersecurity, networking, Microsoft Office Suite, encryption, e-Discovery, privacy, vulnerability management, data classification concepts, and incident response plans.

Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills, be capable of presenting information to audiences, and demonstrate ability to work independently as well as interact with customers and management in a professional and courteous manner.

TIME COMMITMENT
Interns are able to schedule between 15 to 20 hours/week for 3 or more months. Hours must be scheduled in 4- to 8-hour blocks of time during regular business hours (Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.). Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for this internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Interns may be required to drive their personal vehicles to various meeting locations. Interns are eligible to receive mileage reimbursement if required to use their personal vehicle for intern duties.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND SCREENING/REFERENCE CHECK
Prior to placement, applicants may be required to provide contact information for reference checks. Upon placement, OCIT – Enterprise Privacy & Cybersecurity will schedule a background check with the County of Orange Probation Department. A U.S. Social Security number and valid state-issued driver’s license and/or identification card are required for completion of background check process. Please note: the background check can be lengthy and may take a few weeks to complete.
