Chapman University

Office Assistant

February 2018 • Orange, CA

What I liked

Being able to correctly assist students and parents calling with their questions and concerns.

What I wish was different

There was a lot of down time during the lulls of the summer. Certain weeks and information release dates brought more phone calls and walk-ins than usual, but in between those times, there would be minimal work.

Advice

Customer service is a valuable skill. If you are working in a place that requires phone etiquette, PRACTICE and don't be afraid to ask your supervisors or peers questions if you don't know the answer. It is always better to double check than to give out false information.

Office Assistant

May - August 2019 • Orange, CA

What I liked

The flexibility of the job schedule and the nature of the work. Also, the woman that I worked under is my supervisor during the regular school year so I enjoy her as a boss.

What I wish was different

While I do enjoy working under this supervisor, she is a little disorganized and has a hard time using technology, so that part of the job was a bit frustrating.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask your regular semester job supervisors if they are looking to hire anyone for the summer, or if they know anyone that is hiring for the summer for the same type of position you are already working.
