Water Resources Apprentice
January - June 2019 • Santa Ana, CA
What I liked
I helped throughout the Water Resources Department, so I got to see more field-related work and office-related work. I went to Environmental Task Force Meetings, safety meetings, and City meetings.
What I wish was different
The work had slowed as I was brought on, so I did not do what I had actually came on for. I was supposed to work on New Development SWPPPs, but the development was halted while I was with the County.
Advice
Volunteer for everything, even activities that may not seem helpful or exciting. I found a lot of meetings to be helpful in networking and more exciting and informational than I had originally thought.

Watershed Management Support Intern
July - October 2019 • Orange, CA
What I liked
I loved that I got to work alongside the County as well as understanding the Public Education Program and its mission. I enjoyed the fact that I got to network with many people who have different positions within the County. The diversity of career opportunities was also another thing I enjoyed learning about because it made me realize how big the County of Orange is. I also saw the challenges that the OC environmental resources go through when achivering progress. Finally, I enjoyed promoting environmental stewardship through programs like OCWEAP and H2OC.
What I wish was different
I wish it was longer because I enjoyed my experience there and I felt I was only starting to see the impact of the County's work with the government and the people.
Advice
Always ask questions. This is how I believe you'll learn a lot from your internship.
